Indian Motion Pictures Producers’ Association banned Pakistani actors, singers and technicians from working in Indian films. They have just announced that no Pakistani artist will work in Indian cinema “until normalcy returns” between the nations. The organisation’s president, TP Aggarwal, said: “No Pakistani will be hired by their producer members forever.” However, the films which are already produced will be exempted from the ban. This decision came following the Pakistani militant attack in URI that led to the death of 18 Indian soldiers on September 18, 2016. Ashoke Pandit, a producer and IMPA member, said: “IMPA paid homage to the martyrs who were killed in Uri. It, therefore, felt its responsibility towards the nation and passed a resolution banning Pakistani actors and technicians in India till normalcy returns. For IMPA, the nation comes first.”
The IMPA had issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Pakistani artists to leave India by September 25th, otherwise, they will be “pushed out”.
From film-making to music industries, there are some prominent Pakistani artists involved in big budget Indian projects.
Amidst all the controversies these Bollywood celebrities have their own opinions, here’s what they have to say:
Alleged reports also state that Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has been dropped from his upcoming film Laali Ki Shadi Mein Ladoo Deewana. The number of movies which were due to release in October might also face an adverse effect, including Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which has Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan, Dear Zindagi, which is also due to release in November and features Ali Zafar.
Where most of the Bollywood actors are against the ban, veteran actor Nana Patekar speaks in support of the same.
