The impact of a family’s member drug addiction on rest of the family members has received scant attention. In a recent video on YouTube, a father was seen telling his son about latter’s mum’s demise due to a heroin overdose. Brenden Bickerstaff-Clark, a resident of Youngstown, Ohio, posted the video in early October 2016 and it already has over 32 million views. Bickerstaff said he recorded the moment for every addict with children.
Sitting on a table across his son in the home backyard, Bickerstaff shared this tragedy and also disclosed that it was drugs that caused the death of his mother. The father himself was a heroin addict, but in the interest of the family, he fought his addiction and had successfully remained clean for 94 days.
In this heartbreaking video, Bickerstaff says, “Don’t let this disease have to make someone tell your child that your dead because of drugs. This was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. My son has no mother because of heroin… kinda hard to hear but u can hear what we’re saying. Please get help so our children don’t have to suffer. This wasn’t staged. This was real. I had someone record this so addicts with children can see the seriousness of our epidemic. I am a recovering addict myself with 94 days clean today… please share n maybe help save a child’s parents life.”
