Winning prestigious BBC Wildlife Photography Award is the great honor for Nayan Khanolkar,
Nayan Khanolkar, a city-based photographer and conservationist, won the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Award in the Urban Wildlife category. The competition was organised by the Natural History Museum, London and BBC Wildlife which is regarded as the most prestigious of all awards in the world. Nayan Khanolkar’s photograph ‘The Alley Cat’ was captured in the Aarey Milk Colony, which is situated on the edge of the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP).
Post winning Mr Khanolkar conveyed what he wants to express through his picture, he says
“I WANTED TO CONVEY THAT IF CO-EXISTENCE WITH PREDATORS IS POSSIBLE IN THE CENTRE OF A METROPOLIS, THERE IS NO REASON WHY IT SHOULDN’T BE POSSIBLE ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD.”
His photograph highlights the co-existence of man and wildlife, the Warli Tribe living in the national park. “I’m happy because this message will now reach a wider audience,” he said.
