Most of us will remember the story of a two-year-old Nigerian child who was abandoned by his family because he was suspected of being a witch. The village had left him to die until he was rescued by a Danish aid worker Anja Ringgren Loven.
Here is the picture of Anja giving water to the baby that had gone viral then.
When Anja found the child, she was surprised to see how the villagers accused a child of being a witch and left him on the streets where he had been living for eight months. The child was then adopted and Anja’s NGO left no stones unturned in taking care of the baby and in just a few months, the child made a remarkable recovery. Anja named the baby Hope!
Though a lot healthy now, Hope suffers from an unfortunate health condition called hypospadias, defined as ‘a congenital condition in males in which the opening of the urethra is on the underside of the penis.’
Anja and her organisation recently shared pictures of Hope, healthy and happy with his new friends and family from the organisation. He is growing up like any other child though he does not speak much, but does read books and play with others.
Anja also made a Facebook post where she said that the doctors hope to cure his congenital condition after a surgery that is to take place soon.
She wrote, “As you can see on the pictures Hope is really enjoying his life now having 35 new brothers and sisters who all take such good care of him, play with him, study with him, and make sure he is safe and is getting a lot of love.”
