Earlier this year WhatsApp, a popular messaging App announced the discontinuation of its services from the older smartphones. It had said that the App would stop running on the earliest and outdated smartphones which include Android, IoS &Windows Phones. After a while, it decided to extend its services to BlackBerry 10, BlackBerry OS, Nokia Symbian and Nokia S40 until the end of June 2017. Mobile platforms and their versions which won’t support WhatsApp at the end of this month:
- Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
- Windows Phone 7
- iPhone 3GS / iOS 6
A WhatsApp spokesperson explained the reason for discontinuation of services-“While these mobile devices have been an important part of our story, they do not offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future”.
