The world is slowly becoming a fantastic place to be in! Just after beer pipeline was installed in Belgium, now we have wine fountain in Italy that dispenses locally made wine to public, 24 great hours a day, for FREE! The Fontana del vino, as Italians, like to call it, is located at the Dora Sarchese Vineyard in the town of Caldari di Ortona.
The wine fountain which was inaugurated last Sunday is not the hangout place for cheap drunkards, but a holy place, where religious pilgrims can quench their thirst. The fountain is the joint project of the vineyard and the non-profit organisation that maintains the pilgrimage route.
“The wine fountain is a welcome, the wine fountain is poetry,” the Dora Sarchese vineyard wrote on its Facebook page.
As one of the Locals explains, it’s located along “a popular pilgrimage route, the Cammino di San Tommaso”. Each year, thousands of Italians travel 150 miles or so west from Rome to visit Ortona, where the body of the disciple Thomas are said to be kept.
Although the Ortona fountain is not the first fountain to offer wine in Italy, it’s creators describe it as country’s first ‘proper’ wine fountain because the wine will be available 24/7!
So, all you need to do is to visit straight ahead with your glass, or bottle!!
